# Lake Garda, honestly.

*Independent English and German guides to Italy's biggest lake — written by people who actually go there.*

## What is Ora del Garda?

Ora del Garda is an independent travel publication covering Lake Garda end to end: from the windsurf launches in Torbole to the wedding villas in Sirmione, from Gardaland tickets to the Lugana wineries above Desenzano. We exist because the English-language web around Italy's biggest lake is full of recycled blog posts, sponsored content dressed up as editorial, and listicles written by people who have never set foot in Malcesine. Around eighty percent of Lake Garda's visitors are not Italian — yet almost nothing online treats them as the primary audience. We do.

We are named for the **ora**, the steady afternoon wind that fills in from the south every clear day and turns the northern lake into one of the great sailing waters in Europe. It is dependable. It shows up. That is the standard we hold ourselves to. Every guide here is written or edited by someone who has been to the place, paid the bill, asked the awkward questions, and come back to write down what actually happened.

## The five main pillars

Everything on the site lives under one of five guides:

- **[Things to Do at Lake Garda](/things-to-do-lake-garda/)** — the attractions, towns, day trips, and seasonal highlights worth your time.
- **[Boats & Water](/boat-rental-lake-garda/)** — boat rentals, sailing charters, windsurf and kitesurf, lake cruises, and on-water safety.
- **[Outdoor & Adventure](/outdoor-adventure-lake-garda/)** — hiking the Rocca, cycling the Ponale road, climbing in Arco, canyoning and via ferrata.
- **[Food & Wine](/food-wine-lake-garda/)** — the proper trattorias, Lugana and Bardolino producers, olive-oil mills, and the best espresso between the lake and the mountains.
- **[Where to Stay](/where-to-stay-lake-garda/)** — hotels, apartments, agriturismi, and B&Bs by town, by budget, and by trip type.

Spoke guides on individual towns, operators, and topics sit under each pillar.

## Where to start

If this is your first trip to Lake Garda, start with [Things to Do](/things-to-do-lake-garda/) for the lay of the land, then read [Where to Stay](/where-to-stay-lake-garda/) to choose a base — the northern lake (Riva, Torbole, Malcesine) is for active travellers and sailors, the southern lake (Sirmione, Desenzano, Bardolino) for families and food-and-wine travellers, the western shore (Salò, Gardone, San Felice) for a quieter, more residential feel. If you already know the lake, the boat-rental, hiking, and wine guides will get you straight to the details.

## Why you can trust this site

- **No paid placements, ever.** Operators cannot pay to be listed or ranked higher. We do not sell links and we do not run sponsored posts.
- **We test in person.** Every recommended boat, hotel, tour, and restaurant has been used by us — or vetted through people we trust on the ground.
- **Transparent affiliate disclosure.** Some links earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Editorial picks come first; affiliate links come second. Full detail on the [affiliate disclosure](/affiliate-disclosure/) page.
- **Honest corrections.** When we get something wrong, we fix it visibly. See the [editorial policy](/editorial-policy/) for how that works.
- **A real editor, with a real name.** Read about [the team](/about/team/) and the standards on [how we test](/how-we-test/).

If you came here looking for a quick affiliate redirect, you are on the wrong site. If you came here looking for a guide you can actually book from, you are in the right place.
